There are a lot of things to consider if you've been tasked with creating comfortable office workstations for your company. An uncomfortable workstation can result in a lot of negative consequences. The office employees could end up dealing with discomfort or even physical problems that could cause their performance or productivity to suffer. The following are a few things to consider in when creating workstations in your office:

  • The work space - While a large desk might provide an employee with lots of surface space to work on, it can also make a small office feel extremely cramped. Be aware of how much space you have to work with when deciding on things like desk size.
  • Employee comfort - You won't want to skimp on the quality of your office chairs. A bad quality office chair can cause employees all kinds of discomfort as well as physical issues, like back problems. Make sure that the office chairs you choose are comfortable and can be adjusted to the needs of the person using it. If you get office chairs with arm rests, make sure they can fit under the desk to help save space.
  • Proper lighting - Poor lighting can cause stress to an employee's eyesight. Don't assume that the overhead lighting is enough. A balanced lighting scheme requires task lighting and accent lighting in addition to the general lighting overhead. Task lights should be positioned on every desk. Make sure they are flexible, so that they can be adjusted by the person using them to help fit their needs.
  • Storage space - Choose a desk with drawers that can be used for storage. Desks without drawers are going to end up getting cluttered. This is the last thing you want, as a cluttered desk is going to result in an unorganized employee. Not only will it make things difficult to find, clutter can cause mental stress, which can also contribute to poor work performance. If you think you need additional storage space, consider purchasing filing cabinets as well.
